What We Deliver

How much does a PR agency cost?

The honest answer is that PR is priced on senior time, not on deliverables. A retainer buys a certain number of hours from people who already know the journalists covering your sector. That is why two quotes for 'PR' can differ by a factor of five and both be reasonable.

Most UK agencies price in one of three ways: a monthly retainer, a project fee for a defined campaign, or a day rate for advisory and crisis work. Retainers are by far the most common for ongoing coverage because media relationships compound over months, not weeks.

What We Deliver

What actually drives the price

Before you compare quotes, understand the variables that move them:

Seniority of the people doing the outreach — a junior sending templated pitches costs less and lands less
Sector difficulty — regulated sectors such as financial services, legal and healthcare need slower, more careful work
Target tier — trade press is achievable in weeks; national broadsheets and broadcast take longer and need a stronger story
Volume of content — bylines, thought leadership and data-led studies each add production time
Geography — multi-market campaigns need local media knowledge in each territory
Crisis exposure — retained crisis cover is priced for availability, not for hours used
What We Deliver

What a monthly retainer should include

Whatever the number, insist the scope names these explicitly. If a proposal cannot commit to them, the price is not the problem — the scope is.

An agreed target media list, by name, not by category
A defined number of pitches or story angles per month
Named people on your account and their time allocation
Content production: bylines, comment, press releases, data assets
Monthly reporting on coverage, publication authority and referral traffic
A defined response time for reactive and newsjacking opportunities
What We Deliver

Project fees and day rates

A project fee suits a launch, a funding announcement, an award submission or a single data-led campaign. It has a start and an end, and the cost is predictable.

A day rate suits advisory work: media training, message development, crisis simulations, and short-notice reputational issues. Retained crisis cover is usually a smaller monthly fee that guarantees availability, with an agreed day rate when an incident is live.

What We Deliver

How to compare two quotes fairly

Normalise them before you decide:

Convert both to an implied hourly cost of senior time
Ask which named publications each agency has placed clients in over the last six months, in your sector
Ask what happens in month one, month two and month three — a vague first 90 days is the clearest warning sign
Check the notice period and whether the retainer rolls or has a minimum term
Ask who writes the pitches — the person in the pitch meeting, or someone you will never meet
What We Deliver

How we quote

We scope on a call rather than publishing a rate card, because the same sector can need very different work depending on how much of your story already exists in the press. What we do commit to before you sign anything: a named target publication list, the angles we intend to run, and what the first 90 days looks like.

If the scope does not justify the fee, we will say so on the call rather than sell you a retainer that will not land.
